 NATIONAL UNION PARTY MANIFESTO

This report will provide an overview of (Group 5, Sub-group C's) task to write a campaign speech on behalf of the National Union Party, for the flag bearer elect towards the party's campaign launch.
The National Child Care insurance (Me Ba Ho Hia Policy) was taken up in order to curb the high mortality rate amongst children in Ghana. Child mortality continues to be a major public health problem in Ghana especially. In the northern parts of the country where poverty and general standards of living are comparatively worse, have been reported to register some of the highest mortality rates in Africa. In 2019, child mortality rate for Ghana was 46.2 deaths per 1,000 live births. Child mortality rate of Ghana fell gradually from 202.3 deaths per 1,000 live births in 1970 to 46.2 deaths per 1,000 live births in 2019. The Me Ba Ho Hia policy is aimed at giving free healthcare to children from ages 0-12 in Ghana. In this light, it is also essential to put up specialized children hospitals to also help this course thus every region in Ghana would have a newly childrens hospital.

We formulated the Student Loan Policy. There are many students out there who are not able to further their education because of financial problem there are facing.  Most student work aside schooling which shifts their focus from their work. We brought Student loan to provide learners with financial assistance which can offer many benefits for their academic life and financial future. It makes students feel more comfortable focusing on their schoolwork and college experience while avoiding financial constraints.

Looking at Agriculture as the major economic activity in the country and the problems of agriculture in the country, we brought about the farmer aid policy. This policy is to support small scale farmers who due to poverty can't afford fertilizers and also help to educate farmers with inadequate knowledge about good farming systems.

Agriculture contributes to 54% of Ghana's GDP, accounts for over 40% of export earning while at the same time providing over 90% of the food needs of the country. Through this, we arrived at the DWADINI ADAMFO policy. This policy was arrived at due to the difficulty market people, women especially go through when their products are ready for the market and they experience difficulty transporting them. The policy aims to offer assistance to market women to be able to transport their goods without any hassle. The provision of truck to convey food products to the market from farm at a very low cost.

In the past few years, there has been a trend towards the consistency of pension policy for  private and public sector workers, with the introduction of some re- funded pension scheme. As a political party, we took into consideration the pensioners trust fund policy because the situation of most aged not being able to raise enough fund to pay their utility bills has become a problem that most political parties overlook. We decided as a party to absorb a percentage of utility bills for all pensioners in the country.

One other policy we came up with, is prison reforms policy. Our prisons shouldn't be seen only as a place where criminals are been dumped. The core function of a prison system is to help reform inmates, serve as a rehabilitation facility and also give the prisoners a safe custody. A look at how our prisons operate says the opposite. Our prison system exceeds its occupancy rate and that leads to overcrowding. There is pressure on accommodation, food and health care which doesn't promote the well-being of every individual. If our system struggles to provide inmates with their basic needs, its obvious how programmes to reform or rehabilitate these inmates are not treated with urgency. There is a need for a prison reform policy that would see to it that the prisons do not exceed it occupancy rate and make it easy for enrolling counseling programmes to help rehabilitate and reform the prisoners. This policy will also help fix our legal structure that makes the prisons overcrowded. Remands shouldn't be in custody for more than fourteen days as the law states and also individuals should be only imprisoned when found guilty by the court. This, we believe, will help fix the problem of congestion at the prisons.

Our final policy is the business idea/SME fund. Over the years, unemployment has been a major problem in the country. The economy growth has been from sectors which hardly generate employment because of its capital intensity. Statistics show that jobs that are created are just about 2.8% so there are limited opportunities for people to get jobs. We got to understand that there are people who have great business ideas but tend to keep it or even die with it due to lack of capital to start the business. When these people are offered financial assistance to start and develop these great plans, it will be for the benefit of the citizens to get employment. Therefore, we decided that the National Union Party will allocate an amount of money to support small businesses and Entrepreneurship in the country.

In summary, the above enlisted policies include;
-Me Ba Ho Hia Policy
-The business idea fund
-Dwadini Adamfo policy
-The students trust fund
-The prison reform policy
- The pensioners trust fund
-The farmer aid policy

The ultimate goal of our policies is to accept and attend to citizens appeals, promote unity and development,
and to minimize the wide gap between the country rich and poor as in line with the party social liberalism
ideology.
