VETTING AND SELECTION OF CANDIDATE
Leaders of the vetting committee Group B as a sub group was tasked with the responsibility to select a competent candidate for our political party (Group5). The group set up a 7 member committee which developed a criteria to handle the selecting of a competent, courageous, decisive, zealous and a positive candidate.
Knowing the essence of democracy and working in accordance with this system of governance, the vetting committee issued a communique informing all members within the party that persons who are interested and believe they have the required qualities to run for the presidency should own up with their names, pictures and CV to be vetted.
There were some verbal nominations within the class group but the committee only worked with those who adhered to the instructions of the vetting committee. Out of the many, one person boldly showed genuine interest and thus followed up with her credentials.
On Monday; March 1, 2021 at exactly 5:00 GMT, the candidate Miss Charity Frimpong was vetted on her qualities as a leader, her objectives for the party, her ideologies and how she intended to work with the people. The vetting lasted for an hour after an intense and very formal questions and answers session with the nominated candidate.
This was to change the perception that, the fact that she was the only person available for the presidency automatically qualifies her for the role. She showed a lot of courage and zeal in answering the questions thrown at her by the committee.
QUALITIES OF THE CANDIDATES
After the vetting, the committee sat down to have a review of what went on during the
vetting and based on the committee’s assessment, Miss Charity Frimpong was chosen
our official candidate to represent the National Union Party. After another review of the
vetting, the board arrived at the conclusion that Miss Charity possesses these qualities
based on her submission:
● Bold: How she stood tall putting aside the idea of her gender to believe in
herself. She was calm in answering questions even after the committee tried to
intimidate her. She was courageous in her delivery, and the committee finds
these qualities worthwhile.
● Good Communicator: She knows the choice of words to use at the right time,
she speaks freely and always backs her submission with facts. She is confident
in her submission. The committee believes the confident shown in her
submission will go along way to highlight her potential in the presidential debate.
● Passion: To achieve any task/objectives in life requires passion. Miss Charity
showed a lot of passion in her submission and it clearly Indicates that she is
passionate about the position and she will do everything possible to not fail the
party.
● Decisiveness
Every leader must be decisive and this
was a quality we found in Miss Charity during the vetting. She showed with clear
examples her decision making qualities during the vetting as she answered
questions thrown to her by the committee with regards to decision making.
There is a saying that to every coin there are two sides. This is to say that as an
individual no matter how strong you are, you also have your shortfalls (weakness). After
a careful review of the vetting, the committee came to the realization that when it comes to responding to criticisms, our candidate Miss Charity Frimpong fall short.
But looking at her overall qualities the committee believes she can overshadow her weakness with her strength. We believe there is always room for improvement.
PRIMING AND FRAMING THEORY
(A woman among Warlords)
Malalai Joya is an activist, writer and a former politician from Afghanistan. She was named the “Bravest woman in Afghanistan” because in 2003 she stood up and denounced her country’s powerful North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) backed warlords.
Two years later she became the youngest person elected to Afghanistan new
parliament. She achieved that feet because she was courageous, brave, decisive and
she had passion. She stood among men and boldly made her intentions known.
Where other women could not talk because of fear, she defiled all odds, stood tall and defended what she deemed right for her people.
Miss Charity Frimpong has defiled all odds to be the candidate for this election. When
men and her fellow women were afraid to lead this party, she was and still remain the only person to boldly step forward with eagerness to lead this party with passion, braveness, courage and precision.
Her decision making prowess is amazing with regards to how she handle critical issues.
Miss Charity is a woman among warlords with regards to the fact that she is the only
woman competing with the men for the presidency. Not just any men, but men known by many students to be doing amazingly well in the political fraternity.
These are the people she is competing with. Her program “The Gist with Chacha” is making a difference among students because the program is innovative and it tends to influence a lot of students as she invites students, prominent and influential people to educate and share their experiences.
The qualities she possess as a woman is enough to lead this party. She has the charisma of a leader and her credentials says a lot with regards to leadership. Miss Charity is doing what the men are doing, she is doing it more uniquely by changing the perception that when it comes to leadership men are superior.
She is changing the narrative and instilling the idea that when it comes to leadership women are equally capable just like what Malalai Joya did. Miss Charity is an activist and she has done a lot in that regard to influence change among her peers and colleagues.
