PARTY COLORS AND SYMBOLS (GROUP A)

Political propaganda has so many angles in convincing the citizens. The most common ways
are through visuals or arts like; animations, painting, music, colors, emblems, and many
others.

Political parties’ first most important symbol for projecting the ideology and a sign of
recognition is through it's colors and emblems. Visuals are the most effective tool for
communicating a political message especially when communicating to a group of people that
are illiterate or may find difficulties in comprehending the listed goals or policies of a party.

Communication becomes easier when the colors produce different interest on their eyes as a
result of the reflection and being able to relate to them. Choosing a party color(s) may look simple in choosing but not so much as it is perceived.

Choosing colors for a political party involves critical analysis because some colors include mysteries and controversies in which the meanings are strengthened by the stories that revolve around them and may have an effect on the party in one way or the other if chosen.

Considering political parties in level 300, some parties have red, blue in it's colors of
identity. Concentrating on the red, symbolizes sacrifice, courage, aggressiveness, blood, etc.

In Ghana, red has a historical association and it popularly symbolizes the blood that was shed
by our Fathers so it strongly depicts sacrifice and readiness to serve people, which some
parties find in conformity with their service to the citizens. A clear example is the National
Union Party which has the colors blue and white.

The Blue stands for loyalty, superiority, elegance, confidence and truth. The White stands for light, victory, brilliance, understanding, protection and sincerity. The white as light is placed in the middle of the blue to make it stand out or shine to give a good reflection of the party for this reason, they go by the slogan, and quote: UNITY IS STRENGTH.

An emblem as defined in the dictionary as a symbolic object used as a distinctive badge of a
nation, organization, a party, etc The involvement of an emblem in the organization of a
political party portrays the party's traditional ideology in association with the colors and
how it reflects the history and transformation of the party.

The use of an emblem that looks familiar is easily relatable and influenced by the public more than long structured policy, article or speech even though it is equally important.

Emblems serves as an ideal representation of a party therefore, can not be changed easily
since it will suggest a total change in the party's identity and ideologies. Emblems goes hand
in hand with the colors of a party.

Accessing the emblem of the National Union Party, constitutes several hands joining together which signifies unity and togetherness and then an eagle representing liberty and strength which is in the middle of those hands handing each other.

If we work together in unity, peace, and harmony, we will be able to achieve whatever goal
we have set and also work efficiently and also be strong. The hands holding on to each other
shows there is a sense of togetherness and that we all involve each other in decision making
and whatever work we have agreed to do to achieve a common goal and everything is done in
uniformity and the eagle shows that there is strength in unity.

The emblems are official and accepted by party members and other people.
The visual plan of political parties indicates how much they try to connect with their
followers whereas the language of artwork (colors and emblems) in political organization
speaks more into the minds and sights of the people.

It is as a result the most important activities considered in every political party because
whatever emblem or party colors you choose will define your intentions and purpose to the
public. Once it is presented it is difficult to change it so a lot of work must go into it.

The
National Union Party spent a lot of weeks debating over their choice of colors and emblems
before sending the final work to the mother group for their ultimate decision which as stated
earlier was accepted by all.
